As the new Chief Executive I take over the helm of the ERA at a crucial time for energy customers and suppliers.  

The industry is entering a new era of closer scrutiny from Government and the media. The establishment of a new consumer body is a key project area for our sector, and as such, our organisation has an important part to play in looking at the operational and communications implications for the industry and its consumers.

We are also now feeling the effects of global energy demand on the prices we all pay here in Britain. This puts additional pressures on the consumer and in particular those who are in fuel poverty.

It is incumbent upon all of us – energy companies, Government, consumer bodies, customers themselves – to engage constructively in debates around fuel poverty, in order to best establish a lasting solution to the problem. However, it is ultimately the Government that must take the lead. The energy industry will do all it can to support a policy from Government that addresses the concerns of the most vulnerable.
