ERA response to the moneysupermarket press release regarding energy prices, 11 July 2008
In response to today’s press release from Moneysupermarket regarding energy price increases, Duncan Sedgwick, Chief Executive of the Energy Retail Association (ERA), commented:
“The Energy Retail Association does not, and cannot, comment on speculation about price changes. It is in the interests of switching sites to generate publicity about their services as they are largely dependent on people switching to raise revenue.
“However, we recognise that some customers do struggle to pay their energy bills and energy companies have a range of measures in place to assist those who are vulnerable or classed as ‘fuel poor’ – spending 10% or more of their income on their energy bills.
“We always urge anyone who is concerned about paying their bill to contact their energy company to find out what assistance they are entitled to. This could include winter rebates, price freezes, social tariffs, insulation measures and energy efficiency advice. It is very important to do this before the cold winter weather arrives, to ensure you are getting the most from the energy you use.”
