What are Electricity Display Devices?

Electricity Display Devices (EDDs) are clip-on devices that provide customers with approximate information on the amount of electricity being used. Energy companies provide these with some tariffs (i.e. green tariffs) and they are widely available in shops and online.

How do EDDs compare with smart meters?

EDDs will not provide the accurate two-way information that smart meters do and which is necessary for accurate billing and the end to meter readings. Neither will they monitor gas usage which is responsible for the greater part of our energy use.
